Water, power restored after pipe break on Shore Drive in Worcester

| Worcester Telegram & Gazette
WORCESTER – A water main break on Shore Drive left a large number of homes and businesses without water early on Saturday morning, Dec. 6, before water was restored later in the afternoon.
There were also power outages for a while in the area, including on West Boylston Street.
The city said the water main break was isolated, and that water pressure would increase throughout the day for impacted locations. The areas included Shore Drive and Norton Drive, the Burncoat and Greendale neighborhoods, and areas near the West Boylston line. Residents should expect discolored water while the system is fully restored, the city said.
Crews from the Department of Public Works were on scene. Norton Drive was closed between West Boylston Street and Shore Drive.
In an update around 3:30 p.m. the city said the southbound side of Norton Drive was open but the northbound side remains closed with the goal of opening one lane Saturday evening.
According to National Grid’s power outage map, over 500 customers in Worcester were initially without power. Electricity appeared to have been restored to customers by 1:30 p.m.
Although water service was restored, additional repairs will need to be made on Monday, the city said. Motorists are asked to seek alternate routes and follow posted detours.
