An affidavit states that she allegedly submitted a false claim for insurance payment to MGA Insurance Company, Inc. on Dec. 21, 2023. She claimed that her vehicle had been heavily damaged by flooding on Dec. 19.
However, historical weather databases identified a significant rain event with flooding impacts in the area on Dec. 17 and not on the day she claimed the vehicle was damaged. Video surveillance footage from a nearby property showed that McWhite’s vehicle was underwater on Dec. 17, but her insurance policy indicated that she had added comprehensive coverage to her policy on Dec. 19.
The addition of the comprehensive insurance afforded coverage for the flood-related damage to her vehicle. In total, she attempted to gain an advantage of $11,405.44, according to the affidavit.
McWhite was booked into the Charleston County Jail Friday.
