Opinion | The Virginia governor’s election is about more than Donald Trump

The party that loses the White House almost always wins Virginia’s governor’s mansion the following year. Since 1976, it has happened every time but once. So, the fundamentals heavily favor Democratic nominee Abigail Spanberger going into Tuesday’s election. Despite her relatively moderate temperament, it remains an open question how she would govern in Richmond.
