Reports: Bieber opts in, remains with Blue Jays

Shane Bieber is staying with the Toronto Blue Jays, opting into his $16 million player option, according to multiple reports.

Bieber was acquired by the Jays at the trade deadline from the Cleveland Guardians in exchange for pitching prospect Khal Stephen.

Toronto acquired Bieber when he was in the final stages of his recovery from Tommy John surgery. He made seven starts down the stretch of the regular season with the Jays and then made five additional appearances in the playoffs.

He had a 3.57 ERA in 40.1 innings during the regular season and had a 3.86 ERA in the playoffs as the Jays reached the World Series.

The 30-year-old is a veteran of eight MLB seasons and owns a career ERA of 3.24.
