Chester County leaders apologize for Election Day error
Chester County’s Board of Commissioners apologized to voters Wednesday after an error forced independent and third party voters to cast provisional ballots through much of Election Day.
Speaking at their bi-monthly board meeting Democratic Commissioners Josh Maxwell and Marian Moskowitz and Republican Commissioner Eric Roe promised to determine how the error was made and ensure it doesn’t happens again.
“Know that we will look into this, we need to finish the election first,” Maxwell said.

New Pa. Republican chair says last night’s results ‘not what we wanted’
The Pennsylvania Republican Party chairman Greg Rothman said the state GOP will soon begin analyzing what went wrong for them to lose ground on their wins in 2024.
In a statement, Rothman said Republicans need to improve how they communicate their beliefs with voters. And the 2026 midterm election, where Democratic Gov. Josh Shapiro will appear for reelection and control of the U.S. House likely hinges on who wins congressional races, is already underway.
“Today is the first day of the 2026 campaign, and we are getting back to work,” Rothman added.

Fetterman touts Democratic wins in fundraising email, but takes a different tone with reporters
Democrats swept elections across the country Tuesday night, which included wins in key governors races in New Jersey and Virginia. But Sen. John Fetterman (D., Pa.) told reporters he didn’t think they meant munch, since Democrats were favored.
“I wasn’t surprised by any of these things,” Fetterman said, according to the Associated Press.
His tone was a little different in a fundraising email sent Wednesday morning, which touted wins by Mikie Sherrill and Abigail Spanberger under a subject line, “hell yeah.” The email also celebrated the retention of three Pennsylvania Supreme Court justices, “which means we’ve still got strong voices leading our state when it comes to ruling on fair electoral maps, reproductive freedom, LGBTQIA+ rights, and clean air and water.”

Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small reelected despite charges
Embattled Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small Sr. has won a second term, beating out Republican challenger Naeem Khan.
His win extends a run in the office that began in 2019 after Atlantic City’s then-Mayor Frank Gilliam resigned over federal wire fraud charges connected to the embezzlement of $86,000 from a youth basketball club. Small, who was serving as president of city council, was sworn in the day Gilliam resigned.
Now, Small himself is facing state criminal charges in a child endangerment case that is scheduled to go to trial in December.

Republicans will sue over California’s new House maps
The California Republican Party announced plans to file a federal lawsuit on Wednesday over a new congressional map they say violate the 14th and 15th Amendments.
Proposition 50, which easily passed Tuesday night, created a new congressional map with the goal of giving Democrats five more of the state’s 52 congressional seats.
The lawsuit is being filed by The Dhillon Law Group, the California-based firm started by Harmeet Dhillon, who now works for the U.S. Department of Justice. A state assemblyman and 18 voters are also plaintiffs.

Tuesday’s results a ‘rebirth’ for Pennsylvania Democratic Party, new party chair says
Pennsylvania Democratic Party Chairman Eugene DePasquale said Tuesday’s election results reflected a “rebirth” of the state party that has struggled to turn out voters, attract good candidates, and more as they shift to prepare for the 2026 midterm election.
DePasquale, who was chosen to lead the Pennsylvania Democrats at the start of September after State Sen. Sharif Street stepped down to run for the U.S. House, said he sees Tuesday’s “blue wave” as a reflection of a changing tide for Democrats in Pennsylvania and a result of Gov. Josh Shapiro’s leadership over the state party.
“It was a great night. Not just for Democrats, but for Pennsylvania,” DePasquale said in an interview Wednesday morning. “And more importantly, it’s better for what’s hopefully gonna happen as a result of those elections.”

Mamdani won in NYC, but his logo was made in Pa.
The rich blue and warm gold hues associated with Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani’s winning campaign are courtesy of two Philadelphia minds.
Aneesh Bhoopathy and Phil Ditzler, two local collaborators who make up the design co-op Forge, are the creatives behind Mamdani’s branding, logo, and digital presence.
Bhoopathy, a former member of the Queens Democratic Socialists branch, has been working with Mamdani since around 2020. He designed Mamdani’s campaign when he was running for state assemblyman.

‘How’s your midterms looking?’: Krasner taunts Trump after easy election victory
District Attorney Larry Krasner framed his landslide election victory Tuesday as a message to President Donald Trump, saying the results and signs of an energized Democratic electorate were evidence that voters have “had enough.”
“Donald Trump, can you hear me in D.C.?” Krasner said. “How’s your midterms looking?”
Krasner took a victory lap Wednesday morning during a news conference outside the District Attorney’s Office about 12 hours after he secured a third term in office. He spoke for about 15 minutes and took no questions.

Following Democratic victories, Trump pushes Republicans to pass sweeping election reforms
After nationwide Democratic election victories Tuesday, President Donald Trump called on Republicans to change Senate voting rules to implement election reforms in an effort to prevent the House from flipping next year.
Speaking at a breakfast with Republicans Wednesday at the White House, Trump said “we should pass voter ID, we should pass no mail-in voting, we should pass things we want to pass to make our elections secure and safe because California is a disaster. Many of the states are disasters.”
Trump has been urging Senate Republicans to kill a rule known as the filibuster, which requires 60 votes to pass most legislation. Republicans hold a 53-47 majority in the Senate, with two Independents caucusing with Democrats.

Philly turnout way up over 2021
More than a third of Philadelphia’s registered voters cast ballots in Tuesday’s election, according to the City Commissioners — 130,000 more than voted in 2021, the last odd-year election that didn’t involve a mayoralty race.
In all, 359,873 voted in person or by mail, compared with 229,700 four years ago.
The mail-balloting totals were roughly the same, but on Tuesday, two-thirds of the votes were cast in person.

Downingtown elects Erica Deuso, Pennsylvania’s first openly transgender mayor
Erica Deuso is the first openly transgender person to be elected mayor in Pennsylvania.
The longtime Democratic advocate who works in management at a pharmaceutical company defeated Republican Rich Bryant Tuesday to serve as the next mayor of Downingtown, a Chester County borough of roughly 8,000 people, according to unofficial election results.
Deuso joins a small but growing rank of transgender officials in Pennsylvania and nationwide. There are 52 out transgender elected officials across the United States and just three in Pennsylvania (all at the local level), according to the Victory Institute, the research arm of the Victory Fund, which supports LGBTQ+ candidates and backed Deuso.

Danny Ceisler ousts Fred Harran in hotly contested Bucks County sheriff race
Army veteran Danny Ceisler ousted Bucks County’s outspoken Republican sheriff, Fred Harran, according to unofficial election results.
Ceisler rode a wave of voter frustration with President Donald Trump and Harran’s partnership with ICE. His victory means the likely end to the county’s controversial partnership with federal immigration authorities.
The hotly contested races centered around some of the most contentious issues in national politics — Trump, crime and immigration. Ceisler sought to paint Harran as a Trumpian ideologue while Harran told voters Ceisler was inexperienced and warned of an influx of “Philly crime” if the Democrat took office, even as the violent crime rate in the city has dropped from its pandemic peak.

Joe Khan elected Bucks County district attorney, another flip for Democrats
Bucks County’s former solicitor Joe Khan will now be the county’s top prosecutor.
Khan defeated Republican District Attorney Jen Schorn Tuesday, according to unofficial election results.
Khan, a former federal prosecutor who unsuccessfully ran for state attorney general and Philadelphia district attorney, won after tying Schorn to President Donald Trump. He argued the Republican prosecutor ran her office “under Trump’s blueprint.”

Democrats sweep Delaware County council election centered around rising property taxes
Democrats swept Delaware County council elections for the fifth consecutive election, further solidifying their dominance in the former Republican stronghold in the suburbs, according to unofficial election results.
County Councilman Richard Womack won a second term on the council Tuesday while his running mate, County Controller Joanne Phillips was elected to her first term. The Democrats overcame a Republican campaign focused on rising taxes under the council’s current leadership.
Democrats have held all five seats on the Delaware County Council since the 2019 election, when the party took control of the county for the first time since the Civil War. Democrats flipped the county as part of a national trend of suburbs shifting left, which was accelerated during President Donald Trump’s first term in office. They’ll keep their supermajority for the next two years, following Tuesday’s results.

Blue wave? Democrats sweep high-profile races in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Virginia
Was it a blue wave?
It depends who you ask. But Democrats, desperate to gain during President Donald Trump’s second administration, will undoubtedly be encouraged by the results of Tuesday’s elections in the Mid-Atlantic region. The party won gubernatorial elections in New Jersey and Virginia; held three Pennsylvania Supreme Court seats; and saw Trump-endorsed candidates lose several contests.
This election cycle featured several unusual races, making it difficult to prognosticate on whether the year’s results hold much meaning for the future. But Democrats’ clean sweep and, in some cases, surprisingly strong margins of victory are likely to bolster the party going forward.

California easily approves new election map to boost Democrats
California voters approved new congressional district boundaries Tuesday, delivering a victory for Democrats in the state-by-state redistricting battle that will help determine which party wins control of the U.S. House in 2026 and, with it, the power to thwart or advance President Donald Trump’s agenda.
The approval of Proposition 50 gives Democrats a shot at winning as many as five additional seats, just enough to blunt Texas Republicans’ move to redraw their own maps to pick up five GOP seats at Trump’s urging. Texas’ move and California’s response have kicked off a flurry of redistricting efforts around the country, with Republican states appearing to have an edge. Deeply blue California is Democrats’ best opportunity to make up seats.
Midterm elections typically punish the party in the White House, and Trump is fighting to maintain his party’s slim House majority. Republicans hold 219 seats to Democrats’ 213.

U.S. Rep. Mikie Sherrill defeats Trump-backed Jack Ciattarelli in N.J. governor’s race
EAST BRUNSWICK — U.S. Rep. Mikie Sherrill, a four-term member of Congress and former Navy helicopter pilot, won the New Jersey governor’s race, defeating President Donald Trump’s endorsed candidate, Republican Jack Ciattarelli, the Associated Press projected.
Sherrill, 53, beat Ciattarelli, 63, following the most expensive gubernatorial battle in state history, underscoring the stakes of the contest, which Democrats saw as a must-win moment to build momentum ahead of the 2026 midterms.
“They always said we’re loud, but man, with this vote you guys just screamed from the rooftops,” Sherrill said on stage at the East Brunswick Hilton, alongside her husband and four children. “And people around the country have heard it.”

DA Larry Krasner cruises to a third term in decisive win against Patrick Dugan
When Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner announced he was running for a third term in office, he said he was motivated in part by the people who have tried to stop him: the lawmakers who impeached him, the Democratic establishment who opposed him, and the president who has vilified him.
Krasner predicted Philly voters would stick with him. And they did.
On Tuesday, the Democratic incumbent district attorney easily fended off a second challenge by Republican nominee and former Municipal Court Judge Patrick Dugan, winning the general election and securing another four years in office, according to unofficial returns. The Associated Press called the race at 9:16 p.m. Tuesday, shortly after polls closed.

All three Pa. Supreme Court justices are retained following a historically expensive race
All three Pennsylvania Supreme Court justices on Tuesday’s ballot for retention will remain on the bench, following an unprecedented and closely watched retention election that eclipsed previous spending records as Democrats sought to protect the liberal judges.
Pennsylvania’s highest court will maintain its liberal majority for at least the next two years, retaining Justices Christine Donohue, Kevin Dougherty, and David Wecht through the 2026 midterms and ahead of the 2028 presidential election. During that time, the court will hear cases that impact the daily lives of Pennsylvania residents, such as abortion access, voter access, mail voting law, and more. The Associated Press called the race at 9:53 p.m. Tuesday, less than two hours after polls closed.
The stakes of Tuesday’s judicial retention election were set up a decade ago by a perfect storm of factors. The three justices up for retention — Donohue, Dougherty, Wecht — were each elected as Democrats in 2015 during a rare and transitional period for the court when Democrats took a majority. The 2015 election was the first time three seats were open at one time, in part due to resignations of disgraced former justices. Since then, Donohue, Dougherty, and Wecht have played decisive roles on the 5-2 liberal majority of Pennsylvania’s highest court.
