Spirit Airlines discontinuing Rochester service

Rochester, N.Y. — Spirit Airlines will soon leave the Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport.
The last day of service will be Jan. 7, according to a statement Thursday from Andy Moore, airport director, who said the move is a result of Spirit filing for bankruptcy.
The airline is in Chapter 11 for the second time in less than a year and is ending operations in several airports around the country. While disappointed, we wish Spirit well as they address their financial situation.
Spirit launched service in Rochester in October 2022, offering daily nonstop flights to Orlando and later adding Fort Lauderdale and Myrtle Beach as destinations.

In a statement, Spirit spokesperson Cameryn Junck said the move was “part of our efforts to better position the airline for the future” and that Spirit had “adjusted our 2026 schedule to better align with our smaller operating fleet and focus on our strongest performing markets.”
The statement also said the airline “will reach out to those with affected travel plans to notify them of their options, including a refund.”
Moore noted Southwest Airlines currently offers two nonstop flights to Orlando every Saturday, and will offer daily flights there starting in January.
