Where in the U.S. you might see northern lights Thursday night
Outbursts from the sun — known as coronal mass ejections (CMEs) — are sending shimmering aurora borealis farther south than usual.
The first wave arrived Wednesday night and early Thursday, delivering auroras into the northern tier of the United States. The curtains of light were visible overnight in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan, among other states bordering Canada.
