Ducks to give Jackson LaCombe richest deal in franchise history

The 24-year-old defenceman signed an eight-year extension with the club on Thursday. It has an average annual value of $9 million, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported.
The $72-million total value is the richest deal in Ducks history.
“We are excited to sign Jackson to a long-term contract and lock up a core player for our future,” Ducks general manager Pat Verbeek said in a statement. “Getting this deal done early was a priority for us. Jackson has all of the tools to be an anchor on our back end for many years to come.”
The Minnesota native had 14 goals and 29 assists for 43 points in 75 games with a team-leading average ice time of 22:18 last season. For his career, he has 16 goals and 44 assists in 148 games.
Among all NHL defencemen 24-and-younger last season, he ranked third in goals behind Rasmus Dahlin (Buffalo, 17) and Thomas Harley (Dallas, 16).
“It was an easy decision for me to commit my future to the Ducks and Orange County,” LaCombe said in a statement. “We are building something special here and I am excited to do everything I can to help this team win.”
A second-round pick (39th overall) by the Ducks in 2019, LaCombe played four seasons at the University of Minnesota before beginning his pro career with two games at the end of the 2022-23 campaign.
