The Rice Owls (4-5) have three chances to get two wins for bowl eligibilty. The first comes at 1 p.m. Saturday at home against UAB (3-5).
In first-year coach Scott Abel’s option offense, the Owls already have rushed for 1,920 yards. That’s the most since 2017 when they finished with 2244. Quinton Jackson leads Rice with 707 yards and six TDs on the ground.

UAB is led by interim coach Alex Mortensen, who replaced Trent Dilfer who was fired after a 2-4 start. Mortensen is the son of the late ESPN reporter Chris Mortensen.
