It’s basketball season in East Lansing after the campaign officially started on Monday, Nov. 3, and what better way to really get into the season than a matchup between two Hall of Fame coaches.
Tom Izzo’s Michigan State Spartans will host John Calipari’s Arkansas Razorbacks at the Breslin Center on Saturday for a 7 p.m. tipoff on Fox, with fans told to wear white for the big game.
This will be the sixth time the two coaches have faced off and the third different school that Calipari has coached at when facing Izzo. Calipari has a slight 3-2 edge over Izzo, beating him in the 2008 NCAA tournament while at Memphis and twice at the Champions Classic with Kentucky in 2016 and 2019. Both of Izzo’s wins over Calipari came in the Champions Classic, knocking off Kentucky in 2013 and 2022, as the teams played once every three years.

This will be the first time the teams have played not at a neutral site, with the Spartans hosting the Razorbacks in a huge early season test for both sides.
Michigan State, No. 21, sits six spots behind No. 16 Arkansas in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll, but the Spartans are still a slight 2½ point favorite over the Razorbacks.

Chris Douglas-Roberts, a former All-American and Cass Tech alum, was in the house in East Lansing to say hi to his former coach on Saturday.
Calipari posted a photo with the former Memphis star, who averaged 18.1 points and 4.1 rebounds a game in his junior season.
“CDR! Great having an All-American from my Memphis days at shoot-around today in East Lansing,” Calipari posted on social media.
