WWE/TNA

An update has emerged on Matt Cardona/Zack Ryder’s status with TNA Wrestling, following his WWE SmackDown return.

With Zack Ryder being revealed to be LA Knight’s surprise opponent in the Last Time Is Now tournament on the November 15 SmackDown episode, there has been a lot of speculation about his in-ring future.

With the returning star wrestling as his WWE character, and now having new merchandise on WWE Shop, many fans speculated that Matt Cardona could have signed with WWE, ending his runs on the independent scene and in TNA Wrestling.

In a new update, TNA Wrestling has now shared its own news article on Matt Cardona’s WWE SmackDown return.

The article concluded with TNA Wrestling stating that fans can watch Cardona on TNA iMPACT on Thursdays, appearing to indicate that Cardona isn’t expected to be leaving TNA as of writing.

TNA Wrestling shared the following on its website:

On WWE SmackDown, Matt Cardona was revealed as LA Knight’s mystery opponent in the Last Time is Now Tournament.

Cardona, otherwise known as Zack Ryder, gave it his all in hopes of moving one step closer toward becoming John Cena’s final opponent on December 13.

However, it was LA Knight who secured the victory after eliminating Cardona with Blunt Force Trauma.

Watch Matt Cardona in action on TNA iMPACT! Thursdays at 8/7c on TNA+ around the world, AXS TV in the US, and Sportsnet 360 in Canada.

TNA Wrestling notably has a partnership with NXT which has seen Cardona appear for WWE’s developmental brand several times, however Friday Night SmackDown marked Cardona’s first WWE main roster appearance since March 2020, prior to his release.

Matt Cardona famously touted himself as an Indy God during his run outside WWE, wrestling for numerous companies including TNA Wrestling, and on the independent scene without an exclusive contract.

Matt Cardona also commented on his in-ring future in a video posted by WWE, stating that he was unsure whether his SmackDown appearance was a one-off, or if he should expect a phone-call on Saturday.
