Police said the 26 year old woman was in a verbal fight with a man. That’s when police said the man poured a liquid on the woman and ignited it.

The train came to a stop and the suspect fled, police said. The woman got off the train and fell and the fire was extinguished before officers arrived, police said.

“She was in a really bad, really bad state,” witness John K. said. “I just seen her lying on the ground and she was kind of hyperventilating, in a lot of pain, you could tell that she was really in bad shape. All the medics were down there. It was pretty scary.”

The woman suffered from severe burns and was transported to Stroger Hospital, where she was listed in critical condition, police said.

Police are searching for the suspect. ++INTERACTIVE SAFETY TRACKER Track crime and safety in your neighborhood
