Woman Set On Fire On CTA Train In Loop, Police Say

DOWNTOWN — A woman is in critical condition after being set on fire by a man on a CTA train in the Loop, according to police.

About 9:25 p.m. Monday, the woman, 26, got into an argument with a 45-year-old man while on a train in the 100 block of West Lake Street, police said.

That’s when the man poured liquid onto the woman and ignited it, police said. The train stopped, the man fled and the woman got off the train and fell to the ground, according to police.

The fire was extinguished before police arrived. Firefighters on the scene took the woman, who had severe burns on her body, to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, according to police.

The incident happened on a Blue Line train, the Tribune reported.

No one is custody, and Chicago Police arson detectives are investigating.
