Lane Kiffin appears to be the top candidate for the open SEC jobs at Florida and LSU. Amid questions about his future with the Rebels, the 50-year-old head coach made it known on Wednesday that he intends to coach No. 6 Ole Miss against Mississippi State in the “Egg Bowl” on Nov. 28.
“Do you know something that I don’t know?” Kiffin said. “Do I expect to coach next week? Why would I not expect to coach next week? I mean, I expected to coach against Florida too. So I don’t even understand the question about how I would not expect to coach next week. Why would I (not) be at work?”

There doesn’t appear to be a path for Ole Miss to fire Kiffin “for cause” before the College Football Playoff. Per the On3 report, Kiffin has played by the book the terms of his contract by giving Carter prior notice that he was in talks with other programs for a coaching job.
The Rebels are fighting for an opportunity to move up the CFP and earn a bye in the first round by defeating Mississippi State, and potentially the SEC championship. It’s unclear if the selection committee would knock Ole Miss down in seeding if Kiffin took a job elsewhere for 2026.
It’ll be interesting to see what comes out of the meeting between Carter and Kiffin on Friday. There’s a lot at stake personally for Kiffin and for an incredible season that has been made possible by the efforts of the Rebels student athletes.
