Former Patriots 1,000-yard wide receiver signs with Buffalo Bills

Josh Allen’s offense is getting an unexpected late-season addition.

After the Saints granted Brandin Cooks’ request for a release, the veteran wide receiver has elected to sign with the Bills. Cooks will give Buffalo’s receiving room a reinforcement as they navigate issues with Keon Coleman, who has twice been a healthy scratch this month.

Now 32 years old, Cooks has six 1000-yard receiving seasons on his resume, including one with the Patriots.

During the 2017 season, Cooks caught 65 passes for 1082 yards and seven touchdowns for New England. The wideout’s time in Foxborough was short-lived though, as Bill Belichick traded him to the Rams after one season, netting a first-round pick used to select Isaiah Wynn.

Cooks returned to the team that drafted him this season in New Orleans, but struggled to get much traction, catching 19 passes for 165 yards in 10 games. The Bills are hoping a change of scenery — and MVP quarterback — will help Cooks turn back the clock.
