U.S. Sen. Cory Booker got married to real estate executive Alexis Lewis, the New Jersey Democrat announced in a Sunday social media post.
Booker, 56, said that he and Lewis, 38, said “I do” in “two places that shaped us” — Newark and Washington, D.C.
“Hearts full and so grateful,” Booker wrote alongside a carousel of photos of the Newark ceremony.
The couple were legally wed in a Newark courthouse on Monday, Nov. 24 by Judge Julien Xavier Neals, according to Maya Krishna-Rogers, a spokesperson for Booker.
They celebrated their nuptials on Saturday night with an interfaith ceremony and family-only reception in D.C. (Booker is Christian and Lewis is Jewish.)
The D.C. event was officiated by Reverend Dr. David Jefferson Sr., of Newark’s Metropolitan Baptist Church, and Rabbi Matthew Gewirtz of Temple B’nai Jeshurun in Short Hills, both long-time friends of Booker’s, Krishna-Rogers said.
Booker and Lewis live in Newark, where the senator also served as mayor from 2006 to 2013. Both were born in D.C., although Booker grew up in Harrington Park, 20 miles outside of Newark.

Booker, who unsuccessfully ran for president in 2020, announced his engagement to Lewis in September.
They had been dating for about a year and a half at that point. They were introduced in May 2024 by a mutual friend “known for his uncanny success at matching the right people,” Krishna-Rogers said.
After a five-hour first date in D.C., the couple’s second excursion was “even more magical,” they said, according to the spokesperson.
They ate at Mompou, a tapas restaurant in Newark; caught the Broadway musical “Suffs” in New York City; and returned to Newark for a long walk, where Booker “shared the places that shaped his life,” Krishna-Rogers said.
The couple had their first kiss outside Newark’s Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart.
Booker popped the question in Kauai, Hawaii on Aug. 24 after local musicians serenaded them with Mariah Carey’s “Dreamlover.”
“Alexis is one of the greatest unearned blessings of my life,” Booker captioned his beach proposal. “She has transformed me, helping me to ground and center my inner life, and discover the joys of building a nurturing home with someone you love.”
Lewis is a director of investments at Brasa Capital Management, a Los Angeles real estate investment firm. She previously worked for former Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti. She has degrees from New York University and Cornell University.

At the Newark ceremony, the couple’s parents acted as witnesses, Booker’s spokesperson said. The senator’s father, Cary Booker, died in 2013.
The families celebrated afterward with Italian pastries from Calandra’s Bakery and a vegan chocolate chip cookie dough cake with cannoli icing from Papa Ganache Project, a Matawan bake shop.
In D.C. days later, a rabbi and a pastor blessed the couple under a huppah as family looked on.
The mother of the bride, the mother of the groom, and the bride each picked a flavor for each tier for the cake — almond with raspberry, chocolate with chocolate ganache and funfetti, respectively, Krishna-Rogers said.
The couple kept their plans quiet until Sunday, when it was first reported by the New York Times.
Their wedding comes eight months after Booker, who has been New Jersey’s senator since winning a special election in 2013, made history by giving the longest individual Senate speech delivered in the chamber.
He is being eyed as a potential contender for the 2028 presidential election.
