Alan Carr has opened up about a health condition
Celebrity Traitors star Alan Carr has opened up about a health condition that has left him requiring frightening treatment.
The comedian, 48, was diagnosed with an astigmatism in his eye and confessed that he is “losing (his) sight” during a chat with Grace Campbell on his Life’s a Beach podcast.
He revealed: “It was so surreal when I got my check, because losing my sight is my worst thing, and I can feel it getting worse.
“My eyeballs need draining, because they’ve got too much pressure. I’ve got an astigmatism, I kept telling people I had stigmata, which are like the wounds of Christ, they were like ‘get over yourself Alan’.
“But I had a bit of a health scare, can we talk about this, I went to Moorfields (Eye Hospital), I’ve got something wrong with my eyes, like quite a lot of pressure, and I hate the glaucoma thing when they squirt the air in your eye.”

Discussing the treatment, he disclosed that he was “so worried” about the extensive procedure, saying: “You know when you watch Saw, it’s like a Black And Decker nail in your eye, you can imagine the real optician is tied up in the closet.
“I had something wrong with my eyes in the corner, and I was just so worried because he had to basically choke me, just to get this air going in my eyes, it was too much.
“And listen to this, what I had at Moorfields, they anaesthetised my eyeball, and then the spike came in on to the lens to see if it worked, and he said, ‘Just relax Alan and just concentrate on the spike that’s going in your eye’, and I was like ‘Excuse me?'”
Astigmatism can trigger blurred vision as the eye alters its shape, potentially leading to headaches and eye strain.
Despite battling the challenging condition, Alan has remained incredibly active in his television work as he recently joined the Celebrity Traitors line up and has quickly become a fan favourite.
Paloma was “murdered” by best pal Alan(Image: BBC)
He was chosen as one of three Traitors by host Claudia Winkleman and is plotting alongside Jonathan Ross and Cat Burns as to which Faithfuls should be murdered.
The comedian recently sparked reaction after he ‘killed off’ his best pal Paloma Faith during the second episode, leaving viewers in hysterics over his sneaky move.
As expected Paloma was not happy with his decision but Alan has since proved there were no hard feelings between the two when he cracked a joke about it while out for drinks with a pal.
In a clip shared on social media, his friend asked: “What kind of cocktail do you feel like, Alan?” Grinning at the camera, he quipped: “Oh, I don’t know – I could murder a Paloma.”
Alan captioned the video: “Anyone thirsty? love you @palomafaith #forgiveme.” Paloma shared her own cheeky response in the comments, writing: “Mines too salty.”
The Celebrity Traitors continues tonight at 9pm on BBC One and iPlayer
