The Africa Cup of Nations will be shown for free in its entirety in the United Kingdom for the first time after Channel 4 secured this year’s tournament’s broadcast rights.
The British free-to-air channel announced the news on Wednesday alongside CAF (the Confederation Africaine de Football).
In the United States, beIN Sports USA will be the primary broadcaster of the tournament that begins on December 21 in Morocco.
CAF General Secretary Veron Mosengo-Omba said: “The agreement between CAF and Channel 4 is historic in many ways.
“It ensures that the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 will live in each and every household in the UK for the first time in the history of the competition.
“It affirms AFCON’s position as one of the prime and much sought-after assets in global football.”
Channel 4 has a history of broadcasting a diverse range of sports and tournaments, including the UEFA Nations League and European Championship qualifiers, the UEFA under-21 Euros, the Women’s FA Cup and the summer and winter Paralympics.
Sky Sports broadcasted the previous edition of AFCON in the UK in 2023 and 2024. Sky also held the broadcast rights to every match at AFCON 2022, while the BBC televised 10 free-to-air matches, including both semi-finals and the final.
AFCON 2025 gets underway on December 21 when hosts Morocco take on Comoros. The tournament concludes on January 18, with the final held at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.
Ivory Coast are the defending champions after their 2-1 victory over Nigeria in the 2024 final.
