This weekend, BBC viewers will see Angela Scanlon take part on Michael McIntyre’s popular game show, The Wheel.

The programme is set to air after Strictly Come Dancing as the remaining contestants enter the quarter finals.

Angela is no stranger to the glitz and glam of Strictly as she competed back in 2023 with professional dancer Carlos Gu. The pair ended up finishing in sixth place, with Coronation Street star Ellie Leach going on to win the series.

However, despite her happy public persona and busy schedule, Angela confessed she often feels deeply isolated, which was amplified during a CoppaFeel! Charity trek last November in the Himalayas.

On the trek, Angela was a team leader alongside the likes of Emma Willis, entrepreneur Sara Davies and Great British Bake Off winner Candice Brown.

Although when speaking about the experience, the 41-year-old revealed she suffered a ‘full breakdown’.

In a Substack post, she commented: “A couple of days in – I cracked. Full breakdown. Ugly crying into my yak-themed duvet.”

Reflecting on how she felt at the time, Angela continued: “What the actual f*** was I thinking? How arrogant was I to believe I’m equipped to hold these brilliant women at such a tender time?”

The TV star confessed that the feeling of loneliness, which had been hitting her on and off for years, was amplified.

She added: “I was lonely. Not the cute, ‘oh I miss my mates’ lonely.

“The hollow, I have an incredible following of 436K people on Instagram, a full family life, a busy work life and still feel like I’m shouting-into-a-void kind of lonely.”

This charity trek resulted in Angela launching a grassroots community called Hot Messers, a place that embraces imperfection and chaos, which has resulted in organised group walks.

Despite believing no one would show up, the first get-together was a success, with the second organised walk being ‘double the size’ of the first.

Strictly Come Dancing is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
