Baker Mayfield, Bucs Dealt Bad News Before Saints Game

Earlier this week the Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced quarterback Baker Mayfield was the franchise’s winner for the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award.
“Being recognized for this award alongside the best in our league is an extraordinary honor,” Mayfield said in a statement. “Our responsibility as professional athletes and NFL players extends far beyond what we do on the field, and it is incredibly humbling to be considered for Walter Payton Man of the Year. I’m grateful for the opportunity to make a difference through this platform and to help others overcome whatever challenges they may be facing.”
The news came just a few days before Mayfield and the Buccaneers were set to take on the New Orleans Saints.

As Mayfield and company prepare for an NFC South battle, they’ll be forced to play without a star member of the offensive line. All-Pro offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs is not expected to play after being significantly limited in practice this week. The team will also be without defensive back Benjamin Morrison, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport.
The Buccaneers hold a half-game lead on the Carolina Panthers for the No. 1 seed in the NFC South and need to retain that spot if they want to remain in the playoff hunt.
New Orleans and Tampa Bay are scheduled for a 1 p.m. kickoff on CBS.
