New Mexico Lobos to face Minnesota in first bowl game since 2016

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — In their first bowl game in nine years, the University of New Mexico Lobos will face the University of Minnesota Gophers.
UNM announced the cherry-and-silver Lobo football team will play the Golden Gophers in the Rate Bowl, set for Dec. 26 at 2:30 p.m. MT at Chase Field in Phoenix. The game will be broadcast on ESPN.
The 2025 Rate Bowl appearance marks the first non-New Mexico Bowl game appearance for the Lobos since the 2004 Emerald Bowl in San Francisco.
The Rate Bowl is the 14th-oldest bowl game in the country. Since it began in 1989, the Lobos have played in it once. In 1997, when it was known as the Insight.com Bowl, the Lobos lost 20-12 against Arizona in Tucson.
This year’s Rate Bowl will be the Lobos’ third Big Ten game of the season. They lost 34-17 to No. 14 Michigan to open the season but then beat UCLA at the Rose Bowl in a massive, 35-10 routing.
Ticket information and details will be posted to UNM’s social channels and at GoLobos.com.
The Lobos ended with the Mountain West Conference regular season tied for the lead. However, metrics snubbed them from the MWC game.
