The magic of the Games illuminates Piazza del Duomo: with TCL, the Tree symbol of Milano Cortina 2026 is born
This year, a majestic 29-metre spruce from Dimaro Folgarida, which grew in a stream bed and was removed for road safety reasons, is shining. The tree was decorated with over 100,000 micro-LEDs and elegant pearly white baubles, embellished with the Olympic and Paralympic emblems and the “5 vibes”, the graphic vibrations that distinguish the look of the Milano Cortina 2026 Games. A large, bright snowflake, which already crowned the installation last year, shines again on the top.
The set-up of the Tree of the Games – the latest in the series of Christmas trees dedicated to the sporting event coming in 2026 – confirms a concrete commitment to sustainability, with particular attention paid to the life cycle of the materials: the base is being reused for the seventh year, the tip for the third year.
A special circular economy project: at the end of the festivities, the National Furniture System Consortium will ensure the tree is recycled by producing wooden boards and planks, which will be donated to the social carpentry workshop of the Monza Prison so that it can be transformed into new products.
Discovering the magic of the TCL Christmas Village
Around the Tree of the Games is a Christmas Village completely dedicated to Olympic and Paralympic values organised by TCL, a leading company in the technology sector, and Worldwide Olympic Partner: an immersive and interactive place where visitors can take a symbolic journey to the five continents, reminiscent of the Olympic emblem, through thematic installations and experiential activities that celebrate the power of sport to unite people in peace, inclusion and mutual respect. The energy used to power the village installations comes 100% from renewable sources.
It will also be a place to tell the stories of athletes, and to promote the positive role of sport in improving communities.
The Tree of the Games and the Christmas Village represent a participatory celebration of the approach to the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Games: an invitation to the city and its visitors to experience the values of sport and to feel part of the journey towards an event that will unite the world under the banner of peace, inclusion and sustainability.
