A worker at a freight port has died, the company running the site has confirmed.
AV Dawson, which operates Middlesbrough Port, said the fatality occurred on Monday morning at its site on the River Tees but has not released further details.
North East Ambulance Service sent medics to the scene at about 09:30 GMT and the Health and Safety Executive said it was working with Cleveland Police to establish what had happened.
An AV Dawson spokesperson said: “First and foremost, our thoughts are with the individual’s family and friends and with all our colleagues at this incredibly difficult time.”
