See video of Yellowstone bison briefly chase child
Video shows the moment a child decided to run from a bison at Yellowstone National Park, provoking the animal to briefly chase him.
Just weeks after a bison tossed a grandfather into the air at Yellowstone National Park, video shows another close encounter involving a bison and a child.
In the video Brittany Peteler shared with Storyful, several adults and children are seen walking along a boardwalk on July 28. The bison is grazing close by.
Yellowstone rules require visitors to stay at least 25 yards away from bison. That’s about the length of two buses.
However, instead of backing up when the bison turns toward them, one of the kids runs closer, past the animal, which briefly gives chase.
Fellow visitors can be heard yelling “Go back! Do not go towards him! Go away from him!” in the video, which was taken from a distance.
The child appeared to get to safety, but every year national park visitors are hurt when they get too close to wildlife.
“The animals in Yellowstone are wild and dangerous, no matter how docile they may appear to be,” the park’s website warns. “The safest (and often best) view of wildlife is from inside a car.”
