If you’re like me, you may have spent a lot of your summer trying to decode Pamela Anderson and Liam Neeson’s flirty The Naked Gun press tour. After fake making out on the Today show, gushing about one another in interviews, and coyly denying rumors that their off-the-charts chemistry was just for PR, Anderson has finally shared the truth about what went down between her and Neeson: Apparently, she and her co-star were “romantically involved for a short while,” which included spending an “intimate week” at Neeson’s home in upstate New York before parting ways.
In a new cover interview with People, Anderson said their little getaway took place after they wrapped filming and before the press tour. There, she had her own room, and the couple were joined by their assistants and some family members. Anderson described the trip as “a little bit like a Nancy Meyers film” — they spent time in his garden, for example, where Anderson says she “tended to a rosebush overgrown with mint.” And one day, Neeson chased a bear away from the breakfast window while still in his bathrobe. Later, Anderson said they went to dinner at a “tiny French restaurant” where he referred to her as the “future Mrs. Neeson.”
After their “romantic lost week,” Anderson explained that the two went their separate ways to work on other film projects. But when they reunited for The Naked Gun press tour, their chemistry came rushing back. “I always was laughing when people thought, ‘Oh, that’s a publicity stunt,’” she said. “I’m like, ‘A publicity stunt? This is real. We have real feelings.’”
In a bittersweet ending to this story, Anderson admitted that she and Neeson are no longer seeing each other but that he continues to support her work as an actress. She last saw him in August, when he surprised her at her performance of Tennessee Williams’s Camino Real at the Williamstown Theatre Festival. “I adore Liam,” she said, “but we are better friends, in full honesty.” Well, that was romantic and devastating. I bet Neeson is going to think of his brief but beautiful love story with Pam every time he sees that mint-ridden rosebush …
