After a two-year wait, Disney+’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians is back for Season 2. The action-packed new episodes are based on The Sea of Monsters, the beloved second book in Rick Riordan’s fantasy novel series.
The next chapter picks up one year after the Season 1 finale, in which Percy traveled to Olympus to return the master bolt to Zeus and meet his father, Poseidon, for the first time. Luke also confirms Percy’s suspicion that he was the one who stole the lightning bolt on behalf of Kronos, the Titan who has been haunting Percy’s dreams.
Percy Jackson Season 2 will see the son of the sea god embark on a new quest to save Camp Half-Blood from being overrun by mythological monsters. But first, Percy has to find the magical Golden Fleece, as well as track down his best friend Grover, whose been taken by the Cyclops Polyphemus on an island in the Sea of Monsters.
“With help from Annabeth, Clarisse and his newfound cyclops half-brother Tyson, Percy’s survival becomes essential to stopping Luke, the Titan Kronos, and their impending plan to bring down Camp Half-Blood — and ultimately, Olympus,” per Disney+’s synopsis. We’ll also see flashbacks diving into the pasts of Annabeth, Thalia and Luke.
Fans will also meet new characters, including Tyson, Percy’s one-eyed cyclops half-brother. Daniel Diemer, who plays Tyson, told me during a virtual press junket on Dec. 2 that, by the start of Season 2, Tyson is living with Sally and Percy. Before that, he had been living on the streets of New York, not knowing who his parents were.
“He’s really excited. He loves being here [with Percy and Sally], but he’s also now in the way of Percy figuring out his life and a lot of different relationships,” Diemer added. “And so those kinds of tensions collide, and it’s difficult for him, because he wants to belong and be loved. And right now, at least off the top, Percy’s not quite happy with the situation.”

Fans will be able to watch the first two episodes of Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 during the premiere on Dec. 10. The remaining six episodes will be released weekly on Wednesdays until the Season 2 finale in late January.
