Sherrone Moore fired by Michigan after inappropriate relationship

Michigan coach Sherrone Moore postgame remarks
Moore said that the loss to the Buckeyes hurts, but that the Wolverines have a goal to reach 10 wins on the season.
Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore has been fired.
Moore went 16-8 during his two seasons as head coach of the Wolverines in 2024 and 2025 after taking over for Jim Harbaugh the year following U-M’s national championship. Moore has been on staff since 2018 going from tight ends coach to offensive line coach and then offensive coordinator before athletic director Warde Manuel named him head man in January 2024.
“U-M head football coach Sherrone Moore has been terminated, with cause, effective immediately,” Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel said in a statement. “Following a University investigation, credible evidence was found that Coach Moore engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. This conduct constitutes a clear violation of University policy, and U-M maintains zero tolerance for such behavior.”
Biff Poggi has been appointed head football coach in an interim capacity, effective immediately, Michigan said.
Michigan went 9-3 in 2025 and is scheduled to play Texas (9-3) in the Citrus Bowl on Dec. 31 at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida. It is not immediately clear who will serve as the interim coach.
Moore met with media earlier in the week to preview the game.
