Quinones-Herstad stabbed Gonzalez-Alarcon 26 times with a knife on July 14, 2022 at an apartment in the 00-99 block of Jackson Place, police said.

After the murder, Quinones-Herstad fled to his brother’s residence in West Allis, Wisconsin, “where he stated that he had done something bad to their mother and could not go back,” the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office said.

Aurora police found Gonzalez-Alarcon’s body in a closet at the Jackson Place apartment while conducting a wellbeing check on July 15.

Quinones-Herstad has now pled guilty to the crime and will serve a 38-year prison sentence with a credit of 1,243 days served in the Kane County jail, officials said.

“This was a brutal and heinous crime that forever altered the lives of everyone involved,” First Assistant State’s Attorney Christine Bayer said in a statement. “I extend my deepest gratitude to the Aurora Police Department-especially Detective Martyn-and the West Allis Police Department for their relentless work and commitment to justice. I would also like to thank Victim Advocate Martha Martinez for her unwavering support of the victim’s family during this case. We acknowledge the family’s extraordinary bravery and strength. While this sentence brings accountability, we recognize that they will never fully heal from this loss.”
