Boise unveils bird-safe mural at library to prevent bird strikes

BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — A new window mural designed to prevent bird strikes has been unveiled at the Library! at Cole & Ustick.
The mural, created by Boise State University graphic design student Amber Jansson, is part of a collaborative effort between Boise State’s Department of Art, Design, and Visual Studies, the Intermountain Bird Observatory, and the Boise Public Library.
The initiative aims to address bird collisions, a leading cause of bird mortality nationwide. Research indicates that strategically placed decals can help birds recognize glass as a barrier, thus reducing strikes.
The project emerged from a Boise State Service-Learning course that combined art, design, and conservation science, engaging students from both art and science disciplines.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony featured Boise Mayor Lauren McLean, Boise Metro Chamber Vice President Sandy Anderson, Boise Public Library Director Jessica Dorr, Boise State University Director of the School of the Arts Amanda Ashley, Assistant Professor of Graphic Design Eryn Pierce, and representatives from the Intermountain Bird Observatory.
