No charges yet for fired Michigan coach Sherrone Moore; more investigation needed, prosecutors say

PITTSFIELD TWP., MI – More investigation is needed to determine if and which charges might be brought against the former head football coach for University of Michigan.
Sherrone Moore, 39, was arrested Wednesday shortly after he was fired for engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member.
The Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement Thursday morning that it does not anticipate the former coach to be charged or arraigned today.
“As this remains an active investigation, we are unable to comment further at this time, but our office will provide an update once a decision on charges is made,” the prosecutor’s office said in a statement.
Pittsfield Township police confirmed the arraignment would come on Friday, Dec. 12.
Moore will remain in custody at the Washtenaw County Jail, officials said. It is not clear exactly when or what charges might be coming.
Moore was reportedly involved in an assault shortly after 4 p.m. in the 3000 block of Ann Arbor-Saline Road in Pittsfield Township, according to authorities. Pittsfield Township police released a statement saying a suspect was taken into custody following the incident but did not name Moore as the culprit. Michigan announced Moore’s firing at 4:43 p.m.
The university had found “credible evidence” that Moore had an inappropriate relationship with a staff member, which is a “clear violation” of policy. Moore, who is married with three daughters, had been head coach for two years.
The firing marks the shortest stint as head coach for the Wolverines since the 1920s.
