Owls to Wrap Non-Conference Home Slate Versus FGCU & FIU

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic women’s basketball team will wrap up their non-conference home slate this weekend, hosting Florida Gulf Coast for its Education Day game at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 12, and then welcoming rival FIU on Monday, Dec. 15, at 7 p.m. for the Owls’ non-conference finale at Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena. Fans can catch both games live on ESPN+.

A LOOK AT THE OWLS

  • Florida Atlantic enters the weekend at 5-3 overall and on a three-game winning streak, earning a pair of wins over Air Force, 76-71, and Wright State, 66-65, during the Thanksgiving Classic, as well as a road win at Western Kentucky, 47-44.
  • As a team, the Owls currently rank in the top five in the American in several categories, ranking third in the league in bench points per game (26.8) and steals per game (11.1), fourth in scoring defense (62.8) and 3-point percentage (.316), and fifth in 3-point percentage defense (.298), 3-pointers per game (6.8), turnover margin (1.0), and turnovers forced per game (20.0).

  • The Eagles’ offensive leader is Sinai Douglas, who boasts a team-best 10.0 points per game. Douglas also paces the Eagles on the glass, collecting a team-leading 6.6 per game, as well as in assists, dishing out a team-best 3.3 per game.
  • Cerina Rolle and Douglas are the Eagles’ steals leaders, recording 1.4 and 1.3 per game, respectively.
  • FGCU’s Anna Mortag leads the team in blocks, tallying 1.0 per game through seven contests.

 
SERIES HISTORY

  • The series is tied 1-1 all-time between Florida Atlantic and FGCU. In Boca Raton, the Eagles lead 1-0. Friday’s matchup marks the first meeting between the two teams since Dec. 11, 2016.   • The Owls rallied from an opening-half deficit to earn a gritty 47-44 win over the WKU Hilltoppers last week.
  • Zahira Arizmendi led the way for the Owls, scoring a career-high 14 points, shooting 50 percent (5-of-10) from the field and from beyond the arc (4-of-8).
  • Walker led the Owls once again on the glass, collecting nine boards.
  • Moors had a team-leading six assists in the win.
