Active travel capability fund: DfT announces local transport authority allocations 2025

Final active travel funding allocations for local transport authorities have been released by the Deparment for Transport. The allocations are part of integrated and consolidated transport settlements for financial years 2026/27 to 2029/30.

West Midlands Combined Authority tops the list with a £36m investment over the next four years.

Funding supports local transport authorities with developing and constructing walking, wheeling and cycling facilities in England outside London. The revenue funding will support network planning and early scheme design plus community engagement and training activities.

This funding will supersede the Consolidated Active Travel Fund provided in financial year 2026/27. The funding will be paid out by MHCLG as part of Integrated Settlements for 6 mayoral combined authorities. The funding will be paid out by DfT for other authorities.
