Jets to start rookie quarterback Brady Cook vs. Jaguars

The New York Jets are doing something that they haven’t done in 50 years.
The Jets will start rookie quarterback Brady Cook on Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars, the team announced on Friday.
The last time the Jets started an undrafted rookie was on Dec. 15, 1975, when J.J. Jones started for the injured Joe Namath.
Quarterback Tyrod Taylor, who has started in four games this season, was ruled out of Sunday’s game with a groin injury, and Justin Fields, who has started nine games this season, will miss his second straight game with a knee injury.
Head coach Aaron Glenn said tight end Mason Taylor (neck), linebacker Kiko Mauigoa (knee) and cornerback Azareye’h Thomas will also be out for the game.
Cook was signed to the active roster last week, and made his first regular season appearance in Week 14’s 34-10 loss against the Miami Dolphins. He replaced Taylor in the first quarter.
The undrafted rookie out of Missouri completed 14 of 30 passes for 163 yards and two interceptions.
Adrian Martinez, who was signed earlier this week, will serve as the backup to Cook.
