HBO’s First Look At Kyle Chandler & Aaron Pierre In DC Studios Series

HBO Max released a preview of its 2026 slate, including a teaser for the HBO Original and DC Studios series Lanterns.
The superhero series stars Aaron Pierre as John Stewart and Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan.
In the preview, Pierre’s John Stewart says, “I’ve trained my whole life for this.”
Chandler’s Hal Jordan adds, “You’re not ready to get up in front of the class until the ring says you are.”

Hal Jordan places the ring on the dashboard and jumps out of the moving car, leaving John Stewart flying off a hill. In a scene later in the preview, John Stewart is seen running against traffic on a highway.
Lanterns is a series from Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof and Tom King that follows recruit John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) and Lantern legend Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler), two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, Earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.

In an interview with Men’s Health earlier this year, showrunner Chris Mundy teases that the series is “as much of a buddy cop show as a superhero show.”
“Our show is in a lot of ways about replacement—when should someone step aside and when is it time for the next person to take the reins?” Mundy said about Lanterns. “That push and pull between those two characters is really important. So much of the power that John has is by not taking the bait, understanding that you lose your power if you’re yelling and screaming. That’s what we’re trying to convey: He knows he belongs, so he doesn’t have to overcompensate.”
He continued, “There’s a real balance there that’s just innately inside of Aaron. He’s big. He’s an intimidating presence just physically. But there’s a softness to him, too. There’s a thoughtfulness. You can’t teach that.”
