Bullfrog Road overpass work prompts full westbound I-90 closures starting Monday

Travelers on westbound Interstate 90 near Cle Elum should prepare for significant disruptions starting Monday, as full closures are scheduled to facilitate the replacement of the Bullfrog Road overpass, Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) said.

The overpass had to be demolished after a semi-truck carrying an over-height load rammed it back in October, causing extensive damage.

From Monday through Friday, contractor crews will install new girders, necessitating the complete closure of westbound lanes, WSDOT said.

During this period, all westbound traffic will be rerouted via the off- and on-ramps at Exit 80.

Officials urge travelers to plan, allow extra travel time, and remain vigilant for workers and detour signs in the area.

This phase follows WSDOT’s last week’s preparatory work, which included mobilizing equipment, completing pier caps, and pouring girder stops and grout pads.

Looking ahead, short-duration full and single lane closures are anticipated in early January to finalize the project.

The entire overpass replacement is expected to be completed by the end of January 2026, according to WSDOT.
