Rams OC describes why Blake Corum is having so much success in 2025

The Los Angeles Rams have had one of the NFL’s more efficient rushing attacks this year, averaging 4.7 yards per carry, which is good for the ninth-most in the league.

While Kyren Williams has been great as a lead back, rushing for 952 yards and eight touchdowns on 4.9 yards per carry, second-year running back Blake Corum has made a huge difference as well.

In 13 games, Corum has rushed for 550 yards and four touchdowns on an impressive 5.4 yards per attempt, which is a massive step up from the 207 yards on 3.6 yards per attempt he had as a rookie.

Speaking to the media on Thursday, Rams offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur broke down what’s led to Corum’s success.

“I think it’s the comfort level in terms of just being in year two,” LaFleur said. “Kyren got the fair shares as it’s well noted. Having this last offseason, you could just see him getting more and more comfortable. It’s not as easy as just standing back seven and a half yards behind the quarterback and getting a handoff right or left. There are a lot of intricacies with it. Not that he was behind at all, it’s just he was a rookie.

“You can just see the comfort level and with the comfort level comes confidence, with the confidence comes what you are seeing on Sunday. It’s not shocking to me that he’s producing at that level. It’s a credit to the other 10 guys on the field at all times, but there’s no doubt that he’s playing at a high clip.”

Corum has had the best two games of his career in back-to-back weeks, rushing for 81 and a score on seven attempts against the Carolina Panthers and 128 and two scores on 12 attempts against the Arizona Cardinals.

Los Angeles’ backfield split should allow both backs to stay fresher as the regular season comes to an end and the postseason kicks off, and with the way that Corum and Williams are running, the Rams could lean on that rushing attack going forward and find plenty of success.
