The recent crash happened in Indianapolis on eastbound I-465 near Allisonville Road, ISP said.
Trooper Keith Martin was blocking the lane as he responded to a jackknifed semi.
ISP said as he was blocking the lane, he was rear-ended by a pick-up truck.
Martin was taken to an area hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, ISP said. He has since been released from the hospital.
Off-duty Fortville Police Officer Lee Carnish was also at the scene. Police said he was not injured but his vehicle was damaged.
Juan Cuatlacuatl, 21 of Indianapolis, was identified as the driver of the pick-up. He was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing injury.
Indiana State police said this crash marks the third time in his four-year career that Trooper Martin was struck and injured by an impaired driver.
“Our first responders are out every day putting themselves in harm’s way to help, please stop crashing into them,” ISP Indianapolis District Commander Lt. Josh Watson said.
