Early Monday morning, action planet Mars leaves spontaneous Sagittarius and moves into disciplined Capricorn, where it’ll stay until late January. The best way to make things happen right now is through careful planning and persistence: Instead of hoping for a burst of inspiration or good luck, rely on hard work to get you to your destination. Then on Friday night, the new moon in Sagittarius boosts your optimism and confidence. As you set intentions for the days ahead, be bold: You’re capable of more than you think.

When you want to try something new, it’s easy to fixate on everything that might go wrong, especially after a bad experience or two. You might start to tell yourself that expanding your horizons ultimately isn’t worth the risk — that you should stick to familiar ground instead. But this week, make sure that you’re not only considering the potential downsides; it’s equally important to consider all that you stand to gain. Avoiding all risk will make your life smaller and less rewarding; remember that taking big chances can be worth it.

When your actions don’t produce the results you hoped for, or when unexpected disruptions throw you off track, it’s easy to feel like your entire life is spiraling out of your control. You start to worry that you’ll never get anywhere and nothing will go your way again. But this week, have a little more faith in your ability to deal with any surprises the world throws at you. You’re stronger than you sometimes give yourself credit for, and you’re good at thinking on your feet, so don’t give up.

Sometimes, relationships can be damaged past the point of repair. People say things they can’t take back, or trust degrades so much over time that there’s no rebuilding it. But it takes a lot to get to that point — and this week, if there is still hope left for repairing a strained relationship, it’s worth making the effort. Not every problem can be fixed or forgiven, but plenty of them can. If you’ve been thinking about reaching out to someone, it could be the right time to try.

Ideally, your routines provide useful structure to your life; they make you feel calm and capable and ready to take on the world. In practice, though, it doesn’t always work out this way, and often they seem to dull your creativity and make life bland and predictable. So this week, if you aren’t happy with your existing regimens, remember that you’re allowed to switch them up. You can organize your days in ways that work better for you, so don’t be afraid to make a change.

You strive to be courageous, to live boldly and authentically even in situations where you know that you won’t be rewarded for it. But it isn’t easy; there’s always the temptation to play it safe, avoiding decisions that might prove unpopular, never truly risking anything. But even if nobody else notices when you’re holding back, you will notice, and it’ll leave you feeling vaguely dissatisfied. So this week, try to take an actual risk or two, however small. Remind yourself that you have the courage to try, and potentially mess up, and then try again.

You worry, sometimes, that you don’t work hard enough — that all the time you spend socializing would be better spent on bigger, more meaningful projects. But this week, nurturing your connections with other people is one of the best things you can be doing. You’re building community and strengthening your support system. The more you put into these relationships, the more confident you’ll be as you move through the world because you’ll know that when you make a mistake or need some help, there will be people there for you.

It can be easy to feel unwelcome in new spaces and unfamiliar situations; even if you do a good job of hiding your discomfort, part of you still worries you’re out of your depth or that you don’t really belong. This week, there’s a good chance you’ll meet lots of new people, visit different places, and try things that are out of your comfort zone. Try to embrace these experiences with a sense of curiosity and adventure, not fear: Nobody’s expecting you to know everything already, so try not to expect it of yourself.

In general, you try to pay attention to the practical details of your life — not because they’re particularly thrilling to you, but because you know that ignoring them tends to have unwanted repercussions. But this week, remember that being pragmatic shouldn’t be all about avoiding bad outcomes; it can also be about ensuring good ones. While it may be necessary to devote some of your energy to staving off problems, make sure you’re using your energy to enjoy yourself and make your life actively better, too.

You’re probably not much of a planner — too much structure tends to make you feel trapped; you want the freedom to be spontaneous, change your mind, and jump at unexpected opportunities. Maybe you’ve learned over time how to be more organized and more responsible, but it still doesn’t feel natural. So, just for now, give yourself permission to go off script if that’s what feels right. As important as planning can be, sometimes you’ll get the best results from trusting your gut and just winging it.

The busier you are with your job, your social life, or simply the everyday work of living, the easier it is to get distracted from your big-picture purpose. And while there’s nothing wrong with focusing on the small moments of gratification, sometimes it’s important to get away from all the noise and clutter of your daily life so that you can reconnect with what actually matters to you. This week, try to carve out some quiet time just for you. By reflecting seriously on your life and your values now, you’ll be better able to make decisions in the days ahead.

Most of the time, you enjoy dreaming about the future. It’s exhilarating to imagine all the possibilities before you. But the more stressful things get, the gloomier the days ahead start to look; you imagine that the bad parts of your life will continue on a downward trajectory forever. This week, though, try to interrupt your own negative thought loops. Remember how unpredictable the world can be: Your future holds good things you can’t even imagine from where you stand now.

You try not to worry too much about how others perceive you; you can’t control anyone else’s feelings anyway, so why try? This week, though, you may be a bit more concerned with projecting the “right” image. It’s not about trying to come across as someone you’re not but simply about wanting to emphasize your best qualities. People can be preoccupied with their own lives and problems, and if you want them to see your true potential, you may have to make a point of showing them.
