And returning for the special is serial killer John Sugden, portrayed by Oliver Farnworth.
John is Emmerdale’s twisted medic, who has claimed the lives of two others on the square, not including several attacks and kidnappings.
In September 2024, the doctor killed Nate Robinson via injection, before later letting patient Owen die via an overdose; framing the latter for Nate’s death.
He was also responsible for putting his husband, Aaron Dingle’s, life at risk by pushing him off of a cliff, leading to the latter falling into a coma.

John even attempted to murder Aaron when he came out of his coma, unplugging his breathing tube before staff managed to quickly stabilise him.
Not only that, but John also kidnapped and attacked Mackenzie Boyd, who thankfully survived the ordeal.
The villainous character eventually left the soap by fleeing the country after being exposed for his crimes.
At the time, a source told The Sun: “Obviously Oliver knew that a character like John had a shelf life and that’s rapidly approaching.”
But now, ITV has confirmed that John will be returning for the crossover episode, which is set to have viewers on the edge of their seats.
While details surrounding John’s return are yet to be revealed, a short trailer for the crossover has been released.
The promo shows the harrowing aftermath of a catastrophic pile-up and teases multiple deaths.
Other characters confirmed as being amongst the residents of Weatherfield and Emmerdale caught up in the drama are Corrie’s Kit Green, James Bailey, Asha Alahan, Carla Connor and Shona Platt.
Meanwhile Emmerdale’s Cain Dingle, Sarah Sugden, Charity Dingle, Jacob Gallagher, Robert Sugden and Joe Tate will also feature.
In the aftermath of the multiple vehicle smash, police detective Kit takes control of the situation whilst a frantic Carla can be seen trying to calm someone down.
Injured Shona and David Platt are tended to at the roadside by Emmerdale paramedic Jacob Gallagher, whilst Corrie’s own trainee paramedic Asha Alahan shares the screen with Cain Dingle as she tries to help more casualties.
The crossover will begin on Monday, January 5 at 8pm, with Emmerdale broadcast at 7pm, before Coronation Street at 7.30pm and the iconic hour-long CorrieDale at 8pm.
