North Carolina plane crash: Multiple people dead after flight crashes and explodes just minutes after takeoff

Multiple people have died after a plane crashed and went up in flames at an airport in North Carolina.

The aircraft went up in flames following the crash at Statesville Regional Airport in Iredell County at about 10.15am local time.

It has resulted in the deaths of multiple people, according to local media citing police sources.

The airport said in a statement: “We can confirm there has been an aircraft incident at the Statesville Regional Airport.

“At approximately 10:15am, an aircraft crashed while landing.

“Federal Aviation Administration is en route and will investigate the incident.

“No further details are available at this time.”
