‘Madden’ Biopic Teaser Trailer Reveals Nicolas Cage as John Madden

The first teaser trailer for David O. Russell‘s John Madden biopic has been released, and hoo boy is it sure to get NFL fans and gamers excited.
Amazon MGM Studios released the official teaser for Madden on Christmas Day, and in the clip we get our first proper look at an appropriately large and boxy looking Nicolas Cage playing the great man himself, an NFL legend who served as head coach of the Oakland Raiders and also had a long and successful stint as a commentator and later a pop culture icon through the Madden NFL video game series.
The film tracks Madden’s journey from humble beginnings to coaching the Raiders to the Super Bowl in 1976 and later finding further success on television, video games and becoming a reliable pitchman for a wealth of advertisers. The Hollywood Reporter previously reported that the film will serve as more of an origin story of Madden NFL, one of the biggest video game franchises of all time.
Joining Cage in the film is fellow Oscar-winner Christian Bale, with the Brit actor seemingly immersing himself once more to play Al Davis, the owner of the Raiders during Madden’s time with the team.
Madden is written and directed by Russell (The Fighter, American Hustle and Silver Linings Playbook). Cambron Clark wrote an earlier version of the script.
As well as Cage and Bale, the cast includes John Mulaney (playing Electronic Arts founder Trip Hawkins), Kathryn Hahn (as Virginia Madden),Sienna Miller (as Carol Davis) and comedian Shane Gillis in an unspecified role.
The film appears to be a Prime Video original, and there are no details on whether it will get a theatrical release. According to the teaser, Madden is set to release on Thanksgiving 2026.
