Lower East Side 76-year-old woman found beaten to death in Knickerbocker Village apartment, son arrested

MANHATTAN (WABC) — A man accused of beating his elderly mother to death inside her Lower East Side apartment has been arrested.
U.S. Marshals arrested Wei Hou near Albany on Friday after investigators determined he had fled New York City.
Hou is charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of his 76-year-old mother, Zhu Hou, whose body was found inside her apartment at the Knickerbocker Village complex on December 18.
Officials say surveillance and investigative efforts led them to the Castle Inn motel in Schodack, New York, where Hou was believed to be staying.
According to police, Hou barricaded himself inside a motel room and threatened self-harm before he was taken into custody.
Hou was treated for injuries sustained during the arrest and is expected to be transported back to New York City for arraignment on Friday.
Police have not released a motive in the case.
Officials say Hou has a lengthy criminal history in multiple states and was under supervision by the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision for a felony narcotics conviction at the time of his arrest.
The investigation remains ongoing.
