Rangers legend Derek Johnstone launched an incredible attack on the current squad during the Ibrox half-time draw.

The former striker was invited on at the break by the club to conduct the Union Jackpot fans’ lottery.

And, with the game still at 0-0 before Thelo Aasgaard broke the deadlock early in the second half, Johnstone didn’t miss the opportunity to have a go at what supporters are currently being served up.

While doing the fans’ lotto draw, he was asked about the team’s display and accused Danny Rohl’s side of being lazy.

Johnstone said: “At this club, you have to give everything. I don’t see that happening today.” The 72-year-old picked up 14 major honours and had two spells at the club.

Johnstone is considered one of the club’s greatest ever strikers and he called out the lack of leadership, pointing to the core of Scots fighting for each other in the teams he played for each other.

And as he left the pitch, a video clip shows him shouting: “No surrender” to a huge roar from the home fans.

Supporters lapped it up and took to social media to voce their approval.

One said: “Derek Johnstone has just ripped into this Rangers team while doing the half time draw and no wonder. Called out the lack of leadership, saying back in his day you have eleven Scottish lads fighting for one another. What we have to endure today is a shadow of those squads.”

Another said: “Derek Johnstone has just torn the Rangers side to bits while doing the Union Jackpot.”

Another added: “Derek Johnstone MOTM at Ibrox today. Get him in the dressing room.”

One fan said: “Derek Johnstone has just said it exactly as it is at half time at Ibrox. He’s spot on. Can’t disagree with anything he’s said.”
