Exeter Chiefs vs Leicester Tigers
After a few seasons in the relative wilderness, 2020 Premiership champions Exeter are again challenging the top four and they can keep their strong run going with a home victory over Leicester.
The Chiefs followed their triumphant season, in which they also conquered Europe, with a runners-up berth, but then dropped out of the playoff picture for four seasons.
However, this term they have suffered just one defeat in seven – by four points at Bristol – and they have been a step ahead of bookmakers all the way, emerging as handicap winners in every Premiership fixture.
Exeter have shown remarkable consistency in their home games at the notoriously tricky Sandy Park – an 38-15 victory over Newcastle was followed by a 38-0 win over Harlequins and 39-12 success over Gloucester.
Facing Leicester is a step up and this is the toughest home fixture the Chiefs have yet faced, but they have also carved out impressive away wins in the last two rounds, first winning by a single point at Sale before last week beating Saracens 30-24.
Like Exeter, Leicester have also won their last four Premiership matches but three of those were at Welford Road and the only road success was at bottom club Newcastle. Their other away matches ended in defeat at Bristol and Northampton.
Exeter have made three changes to their side from the win at Sarries last week while Leicester are without fly-half James O’Connor, so Billy Searle against starts at number ten with Orlando Bailey on the bench.
The Tigers have a dangerous back three and both teams have been running in plenty of tries, but Exeter should have the edge on home soil.
