You may have worn short sleeves during an atypical warm holiday, but keep that ugly Christmas sweater within reach, as forecasters warn that an arctic blast is on its way to Nashville.
Heavy showers are predicted for the evening of Dec. 28, along with wind gusts and cold air — and possibly snowflakes — by Dec. 29, according to the National Weather Service.
Temperatures across Middle Tennessee reached record highs Dec. 27, with some areas reaching 75 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. A drastic fall in temperatures is expected, possibly dipping below freezing to 29 degrees overnight from Dec. 28 into Dec. 29.
Temperatures on Dec. 28 are expected to hover in the low 70s, but by nightfall, showers and storms are forecast, with strong winds considered “the main concern,” according the National Weather Service.
The rain is expected to stop by the morning of Dec. 29, when temperatures will plummet to 44 degrees or lower, falling into the mid-30s overnight. The National Weather Service for Nashville posted on social media that some snowflakes could be possible Dec. 29, but didn’t mention expected accumulation.
Temperatures on Dec. 30 aren’t expected to rise out of the 30s and could drop as low as 17 degrees overnight, with the freezing weather expected to continue at nightfall the rest of the week.
