DTW hit by flight cancellations, delays as winter storm rolls in

More than 200 flights to and from Detroit Metro Airport were delayed and dozens were canceled Sunday as strong winds and low temperatures moved across southern Michigan.
As of 8:06 p.m. Sunday, FlightAware listed 40 canceled flights and 250 delays for arrivals and departures at DTW.
Departures out of DTW comprised 135 of the delays and 18 of the cancellations, according to FlightAware tracking data.
The number of delays at DTW rose sharply after Christmas Day on Thursday, which saw only 97.
On Friday, amid freezing rain across southeast Michigan, there were 243 flight delays. There were 329 delays on Saturday, according to FlightAware.
The National Weather Service is predicting a cold front to move west to east through the region from 11 p.m. Sunday to 1 a.m. Monday. The front is expected to bring showers and an isolated thunderstorm. Wind gusts around 45 mph are possible.
The weather is the result of a winter storm crossing the plains Sunday that started a chain reaction of snow, ice and rain.
