The Thunder Bay Police Service is warning the public to be cautious after receiving reports of scam calls related to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation’s monthly 50/50 draw.

In a release issued Monday, Thunder Bay police said some residents have reported receiving phone calls from individuals claiming to represent the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation (TBRHSF), telling them they are the 50/50 winner — but that they must pay a fee to collect the prize.

“We will never call you to say you’ve won and ask for a fee. The only purchase required is your ticket,” said the TBRHSF in a post on Facebook. “If you receive a call claiming you’ve won and asking for money, it’s a scam. Hang up and report it.”

More information about potential scams and how to report fraud can be found on the Thunder Bay Police fraud prevention website.
