Ram revives $100,000 TRX V-8 truck amid looser regulations

Ram is reviving its Hemi V-8-powered TRX off-roading pickup amid looser federal emissions regulations and as parent company Stellantis NV charts a sales turnaround in the truck-loving United States.
The automaker said Thursday that the 2027 Ram 1500 SRT TRX will be available in the second half of this year and cost $102,590 including destination charge.
Ram offered the high-powered sport truck from the 2021 to 2024 model years but canceled it as Stellantis shifted away from V-8s and toward more fuel-efficient offerings and electric vehicles. It then unveiled a six-cylinder version, called the RHO, which will remain available and comes in at a price about $25,000 less than the TRX.
But as the automaker pivoted back toward offering a V-8 option in other vehicles last year — including in other versions of its Ram 1500 pickup — it became clear that the beefy TRX was also primed for a comeback.
Ram says the TRX is the “fastest and most powerful gas pickup truck in the world,” and the brand considers it part of its “halo” truck portfolio — super high-end offerings that might not sell in very large numbers but can nonetheless help garner interest and drive sales of other vehicles.
It offers a 6.2-liter supercharged Hemi V-8 that puts out 777 horsepower and 680 pound-feet of torque, delivering a 0-60 mph time of 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 118 mph. A new TRX tailgate logo includes a toothy dinosaur head.
“The TRX is back from the dead,” Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis said in a launch video for the sport truck, adding it’s more powerful than the last generation.
The truck also marks a return of the automaker’s SRT performance division, or Street and Racing Technology; SRT vehicles are also expected to be offered once again at Stellantis’ other U.S. brands such as Dodge and Jeep.
The super truck’s return comes as the Ram brand, and the automaker at large, seeks a sales turnaround, and it is especially focused on regaining market share in the highly profitable United States.
Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa recently told investors that Ram would play a central role in the recovery effort, thanks to its high profit margins, brand equity and global footprint. “Really we are turning around the most exciting pickup truck brand in the world, and you will see many things happening for Ram,” he said.
Under Kuniskis, Ram has embarked on an aggressive product launch and marketing campaign starting early last year, promising 25 announcements in 18 months. That’s included the Hemi’s return in other trucks, a longer powertrain warranty, a return to NASCAR racing for the brand, and other new partnerships in areas like pro bull riding and the UFC.
It’s been helped by the Trump administration’s moves to loosen fuel economy standards and penalties, allowing the return of the Hemi engine that’s long been popular among truck drivers. Filosa said the company got 10,000 orders for the V-8 the first day it was announced and 50,000 six weeks in.
Beyond the TRX, Ram also announced Thursday that it would offer for the first time its Power Wagon pickup with a 7.7-liter Cummins turbo diesel six-cylinder engine that puts out 430 horsepower and 1,075 pound-feet of torque.
The idea is to maintain the existing off-roading ability of the truck and add more towing capability, Kuniskis said. The truck will arrive in the second half of the year as a 2027 and start at $88,470 including destination charge.
