First babies of 2026 welcomed across West Michigan hospitals

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Three West Michigan families welcomed a new addition on the first day of the new year.
At Bronson Birthplace in Kalamazoo, the Kilmartin family welcomed a healthy baby boy at 12:19 a.m., according to Bronson Health Thursday.
Weighing 6 pounds, 2 ounces and measuring 19 inches long, the baby’s parents, Pete and Demi Kilmartin, and his big sister are all doing well. They’re thrilled to welcome him to the family, officials said.
“I love working at Bronson BirthPlace because welcoming babies into the world is more than a job — it’s an honor,” LeTishia Hill, nursing director at Women’s and Children’s Services for Bronson Healthcare, said. “We celebrate each family by partnering with them through compassion and respect, creating a safe and joyful beginning for every baby and every family we serve.”
Bronson Birthplace in Battle Creek also welcomed a healthy baby boy to the world at 5:13 a.m. Thursday. The family chose to remain anonymous.
Over at Corewell Health Butterworth Hospital, parents Emily Strang and Christian Adsit welcomed their second baby at 1:35 a.m., according to officials.
Weighing 10 pounds, 8 ounces and measuring 23 inches long, the little one was “on a mission to become the first baby of 2026 at Corewell Health in Grand Rapids,” coming into the world much sooner than his Jan. 7 due date, officials said.
Both the little one and his mama are doing well, according to officials.
In addition, University of Michigan Health-West welcomed a healthy baby boy at exactly 6 a.m. Thursday, according to officials.
Weighing 7 pounds, 3 ounces and measuring 19-and-a-half inches long, the little one and his parents, Jenn and Mike Anderson, are doing well, officials said.
Welcome to the world, little ones!
