It has been a topsy turvy season for Real Madrid so far in 2025/26.
Madrid got off to the perfect start to the season under new manager Xabi Alonso.
They started their season with 13 wins in their first 14 games in all competitions.
However, they have won just five of the next 11 games that have followed.
Pressure has since ramped up on Alonso, with his job reportedly under threat.
Form has picked up of late, with three of those five wins coming in their last three games.
With the January transfer window now open, they have been linked with a move to help bolster the squad when competing on multiple fronts that will come as a blow to Manchester United.
The Express have reported that former Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves is set to join Real Madrid on a free transfer this summer when his deal expires, with a £20 million price tag reported should he make a move in January.
Neves joined Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal for £47 million in the summer of 2023 after a successful spell with the Midlands side.
This was a spell that saw the club earn promotion back to the Premier League and become a European challenger for multiple years.
Neves also guided Wolves to an FA Cup semi-final appearance in 2019, coming agonisingly close to a place in the final against Manchester City.
He was also known for scoring wonderful goals, most notably his strike against Derby County that is seen by many as the greatest goal in Wolves history.
The 28-year old’s arrival in Madrid would be a setback for United in their hopes of singing midfield talent to replace the potentially departing Casemiro, Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte.
United have also been linked with moves for the likes of Carlos Baleba, Conor Gallagher, Adam Wharton and Elliot Anderson, but the signing of Neves would have provided a cheaper option.
